Making an appointment calendar in FM

I am putting together a database and calendar in FM and have run into a user interface problem. When my client creates an appointment block at let's say 8 am to 9 am and another at 11 am to 12 pm, I want the daily or weekly calendar view to be able to show the user there is an empty space for the 10 am to 11 am block surrounded by the two appointments. FM Portals with multiple rows don't work that way. They like to be consecutive.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem. For the most part the calendar part works fine, except for this issue.

Yup! If you want the blank space, you will need to use one one-row portal for each day/time slot. Your only other option is to pad out your transaction file with a blank entry for every time slot. Multi-row portals only display records and don't skip rows.

Ugh. I've done this sort of thing before, and it's not pretty. Unfortunately, the DB I did this in was deleted from my HD, so I can't reference it at the moment to see what I did. I'll reply to the thread in, oh, December when I can get my backup CDs out of storage. laugh.gif
