Change Text FORMAT in a calc field?

Featured Replies

OK, I'm pretty sure I know that I can't do this, but before I give up, I want confirmation..

In a Calc Field, is there any way to specify that part of the results be a particular text format?

For Example:

The quick brown fox

becomes....

The quick brown fox

I know I can overlay multiple fields and such to make it APPEAR this way, but is there any way in just one calc field?

I'm afraid you're right - overlay techniques and other smoke and mirrors are the only ways to get (simulate) calculated formatting at present.

The only notable exception to this is the number formatting option which will allow you to choose a color for negative numbers (along with various presentation protocols).

I've bemoaned the lack of format control capabilities on occasions myself, so you have my full sympathy. Maybe it should go on somebody's wish list for FMP version 7 ?!

FYI - there is an extension by abstrakt called 'Styler' (not to be confused with diStyler, an equally good, but very different extension) that does exactly what you're asking for. If you're willing to go that route.

YES!!! You can have text styling!!!

You have to use 'merge' fields in a text block. Not the best way to do this, but it is usable.

I will post a sample file in the Sample File Forum.

Good Luck!
