Strange Stuff - Filemaker Networking

I was wondering if anyone might know why the following is happening:

I have a database that is accessed by a few users (2-3) on a Windows 2000 server (db resides) and Windows 98 (Client O/S). This database has a relationship with an images db. The problem lies when the file is opened by any user (client or server becomes the host) not all the records appear in the database. Then whenever the hosted file is opened by another user (a Guest of the Host) all the records are visible??? The password used to open the file is full access and NTFS and sharing permissions are full control as well.

- Does anyone have an idea as to why and what could be causing the problem? - Lost in filemakerland....

Thank you for you time.

On the server, is file sharing turned on? Are users opening the files on the server through file sharing and becoming the host?

If these are true. 1) Turn off file sharing on the server. FileMaker should run on a dedicated host, even if not using FM server. 2) The files should be opened by a copy of FM on the server. Guests should use File Menu --> Open --> Hosts to open the files. Any other method of sharing and opening the files will cause big trouble. (Don't bother to post back and ask me how to do what you are doing now and solve the problem wink.gif)

An obviously better solution is to run FM Server on a dedicated machine (also with File Sharing and other services turned off).

Small point, but you can probably still be safe with a local "opener" database, one that uses scripts to open up remote databases.
