Is there any way to lock part of a layout from scrolling?? We use large layouts for data entry and have many buttons to perform various tasks. the problem is that when you scroll down to the bottom of the layout the buttons on the upper part are no longer visible can you scroll part of the screen but not all of it?? I need the data to scroll but not the buttons. I tried breaking the data up into different layouts to keep from scrolling down, but that didn't go over well. Some people!!! they don't want to change layouts for data entry but they gripe about having to scroll to the buttons. What can I do?:

Thanx

Modify your layout so that you have a "Header" part. Put your buttons there, and when the user scrolls the layout the header stays put. You could also do this with the footer part.

Well .. sort of...

This only works when you have the view set to "view as list". All in all, this is a great option - and I find it works best with my layouts if I write the navigation so that the "found set" is always one record, that way the user does not zip down a lot of records when they think they are just getting to the bottom of the screen.

A long layout has it's place, but most user interface folks concur that multiple layouts work best to accomidate situations with a lot of fields.

Yes, ideally a form layout should be designed to fit on screen so you can see it all at one time

In an instance where you must (for whatever reason) have longer layout(s), it doesn't hurt to take a leaf out of the web designer's manual, and provide 'back to top' navigation, plus basic navigation buttons/commands duplicated at the top and bottom of the layout.
