Hammerton Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 I have a small appletalk network. Box A runs FMPUltd5.0. All databases running on Box A are set for multi-user hidden. Under 9.2 I used to be able to work with these files from my office computer - running FMP5 - via file sharing. Since switching to OSX when I try to open a file that is already opened on Box A I get a file not closed properly message, then a warning that says the file can't be opened as read-only in its current state - unlock the file and open it and close it before attempting to lock the file again. What the hell is all that about? I can open Box A database files that are not currently open just fine. Any ideas? Please do not suggest upgrading to 6.0. I work for a poor state university.
LiveOak Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Are you 1) opening the file remotely via File Menu --> Open --> Hosts or 2) by navigating to the file using file sharing? It sounds like you are using method 2). This is an extreme no-no and may cause crashing and massive file corruption. ONLY method 1) should ever be used to open a shared file. FileMaker is it's own file sharing environment, general purpose File Sharing should be disabled on Box A. -bd
