Do we have this "draw" feature in FMP?

Featured Replies

One of the things I've tried to figure out how to do is to cut out parts of FMP. Currently, I've been using my screendump (or screenshot) program since it can cut out with precise crosshairs and then either save to clipboard or save to file. As you can imagine, having a third party app do this is not good since it's not as accurate as is needed.

Re using something like Paint Shop Pro, the weird thing there is that graphical elements taken out of FMP, manipulated in PSP and then put back into FMP change size which again means not an accurate way to do this. Now before messing around with figuring out if any of these elements have an actual/real pixel size, etc., and messing about with that, thought it'd just be easier to get around this if I find out how to cut out right in FMP itself.

Can we in FMP?

Typically 'draw' features are those that involve creation of geometric shapes (vector graphics) with line and fill attributes. In layout mode, FileMaker provides a range of drawing tools which are selectable from the status area.

I have the feeling, however, that you are referring more to pixel based image manipulation - what is more commonly called 'paint' (raster or 'bitmap' images) - and there FileMaker is deficient.

If you want to do anything more elaborate than screen clips, you will need to look into plug-ins or use third-party applications, as you have already been doing, it seems (though you may be able to locate some that will be a little less hit and miss than 'paint shop pro').

Cheers,

Actually, I made the statement too broad. I am more interested in knowing if we can "cut" out in FMP.

btw, PSP is not only one where the image resizes. Paint did exactly the same thing, so I'll need to figure this problem out, but that's another story and it's not urgent. (p.s., PSP is great; like everything, you have to know what you're doing or learn what you don't).

Can anyone tell me how they would cut an image out of an FMP background?

Thanks!

Objects selected in lasyout mode can certainly be copied and 'cut' to the clipboard and pasted into other programs (although the results will depend a bit on the ability of the program you paste into to interpret the vector graphics).

However I have a feeling you are referring to 'cut out' in a different sense - meaning to separate a bitmap image from its background? If so, then no, as that is a 'paint' image manipulation process, it isn't available with the 'draw' tools in FMP.
