No One Knows My Wireless Woes

Download the full article at: http://www.fmwebschool.com the article is called "Protect Your Wireless Network"

If you are a FileMaker developer setting up a home wireless network, or a wireless network for a client, there are some things that you should really be aware of.

Hackers used to use a technique called war dialing. Hackers would set modems to dial every number in town in search of other modems connected computers. Now with the age of wireless systems the hackers need not work so hard. Armed with a wireless-enabled notebook PC or a PDA and a copy of NetStumbler software for detecting wireless networks anyone can easily access your network if you do not have it properly secured. Most vendors ship wireless products with their built-in security turned off by default. Even with (WEP) Wired Equivalent Security turned hackers can still easily break into your network. In a recent contest held at last summers DefCons hacker conference in Las Vegas, a team of hackers was able to find over 500 vulnerable access points in a 9-mile radius. These included large offices, families, law offices, banks running wireless networks that were completely unprotected. I don't know about you, but it really worries me when banks have unprotected wireless networks. Hackers call this new popular pastime War Driving. To find out how you can make sure your wireless system is set up properly, and to learn how to protect your information from Hackers, Log onto FMWebschool's site and download the PDF file called wireless.
