I have a calc Choose(

Status(CurrentSortStatus), "Unsorted","Sorted","Semi-Sorted") that I have displayed on a status bar. I am trying to determine how much space the longest option (semi-sort) will take. But, no matter how I sort, I can't get Semi-Sort to display. FM Help shows nothing on semi-sort that I can find. What is semi-sort? Something is sorted ... or it isn't. Isn't it? tongue.gif

Semi-Sorted is the state that occurs when, after the data-base bas been sorted, further events occur which may threaten the integrity of the sort.

For example, you may edit one of the fields that was used in the sort. Since its value no longer matches the value that you sorted on, the 'purity' of the sort is compromised, and FileMaker updates the sort status to 'semi-sorted' to reflect this.

Another frequent occurrence is that new records are added after a sort, and again, this generally (and appropriately) results in the sort status reverting to the 'semi-sorted'.

Hmmm, I doubt Users would understand that. Would it be appropriate then, instead of saying "Semi-Sorted" say something like "Your sort integrity has been compromised," of course in clearer terms, so the User knows that their sort is no longer authentic?

I prefer the term "Partially Sorted". I think it is self-explanatory... users may not know *why* its partially sorted... but they'll know not to rely on the sort and to re-sort if they want to rely on the sort.

I like that a lot better, Kennedy. I was also thinking of just putting "unsorted" again so they'd be sure to re-sort! But, then I can see it already ...I'd be getting complaints! "Hey, the dumb computer keeps stealin' my sort!" "Partially Sorted" says it all! That's perfect! grin.gif

blush.gif I mean Brian blush.gif You guys who use 'part-names' or 'make-up' names sometimes make it difficult! I remember once almost saying, "Thanks COBALT!" Geeez!
