Button Gone, Behind Portal, How?? File Link?

Featured Replies

This seems very simple but I cannot resolve it. Reasonably new to Filemaker. We have a portal which has a button and text field in the header. The button just opens a related file. When entering data all is fine for the fields etc but the open button on the left is only visible on the top entry not any of the others. The button is 'hidden' behind the portal as the hand appears when you pass over it. I have brought the button to the front but the top one appears why not the others as lines are added?

Secondly I have another portal which is for linking files to a certain contact. I have this already done on another page so just copied and pasted and re-did the relationship. Looked good for a while but didn't work so changed the portal relationship all dissapeared. Cant see any fields or buttons. If I change relationship I can see them but it doesn't work. Tried new portal, bring to front , send to back etc. still no joy.

Just can't find the answer once more so any help greatly appreciated in my quest to learn and develop filemaker.

If the button opens the related file for your portal, you don't need it. The file will open automatically when you land on the layout. Buttons must be entirely outside or inside a single portal row, not across the boundaries. Otherwise, there is too much going on here, we'll probably need to see the file.

Yes. The crucial factor is that the topmost left corner of the button object (not necessarily its visible top left corner) must be below and to the right of the top left corner of the top portal row (also not necessarily its visible corner, depending on line attributes etc).

As regards, your second issue, portals will only display correctly if the relationship is valid for the current record. Moreover, all the fields placed in the portal must be selected via the same relationship that the portal is based on, or all the 'wires will be crossed' and the resulting display will be haphazard or worse.
