DigitalDreamer Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Hello everyone. I hope im asking this question in the correct section. Is there a way to limit how many records can entered into a database i have created? I want to make a demo of a solution i have made. And i thought a easy way to do that is limit them to oh lets say 5 records and no more. Can this be done? Thanks for any help you can give me. Take care. Dave W. Delphos, OH
jasonwood Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 You can limit access to menus, and then create a button for new record (which would check the number of records first) The down side is that you'd then have to script all of the basic functions you want users to be able to use, because you cannot selectively take away menu items... it's pretty much all or nothing!
DigitalDreamer Posted December 12, 2002 Author Posted December 12, 2002 Thanks for the reply. I will give that try. Thanks for the idea.
Geeksharka Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 You could also add a Demo Checking script. Basically, add a script to the system that checks to see how many records there are, and if it's more than the amount you want in the demo (say 5), the script will delete any extra records. Then just add this Demo Checking script into any or all of the basic scripts in your demo. That way whenever a demo user tries to perform basic scripts, it will auto-delete the extra records if the Demo has not been registered yet. You could even make the Demo Script conditional based upon a registered field, allowing them to 'unlock' the demo remotely if they purchase the serial number from you. A bit crude, but effective.
