Newbie, Will Robinson, newbie! Question about Date

Featured Replies

I am setting up a computer issues database so that our teachers can submit a problem via our intranet. i would like when they hit the "new record" button that the date field and the time field would auto-generate.

as i have been trying to do this, i've used the Insert--Current Date and the Insert--Date Symbol. i also used the appropriate inserts for the time field. i have made sure that my fields are appropriately defined as date and time.

i noticed when i used the time symbol, every time i review the record in FMP, it updates to the current time. when i use the Insert--Current Time, well, the record will show that exact time, but it doesn't show updated on the intranet; the field is blank! when i press "New Record," the date field is blank, but it does show in FMP. I need it to show on the web, too, as we will access this throughout the campus to see where the next problem is.

TIA,

carlos

why don't you try setting these particularly fields to be auto-entered as creation date and creation time. this way any time a new record is created filemaker will automatically insert the values that you seek. you do this by going into the define fields menu (under File) and choosing options. from there, pick the auto-enter tab. You should also probably choose prohibit modification of value so these cannot be altered.

While you're at it, throw in two more fields: Modification Date and Modification Time. There are auto-enter settings to create these too.
