webcat Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 Hi, I'm working with FMD6 - trying to share files over my local network. I'm using OS 10.2.3 and I usually have my firewall switched on by default. I was trying to share files and getting nowhere until I realised that the OSX firewall was on and it was probably blocking the Filemaker port... I switched it off and it works !! So, what I need to know, and I can't find this in Filemaker, is what port number should I allow in my firewall to allow Filemaker to share files locally? I have looked in the prefs/application/plugins but I can't click the configure button on anything except the web sharing - which I have configured OK... Is there something I am missing? any help gratefully received.
Anatoli Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 It is port 5003. It is registered with IANA.
webcat Posted December 30, 2002 Author Posted December 30, 2002 that's the bunny! works fine now. ta.
Steve T. Posted January 1, 2003 Posted January 1, 2003 Hi, Webcat... Anatoli may be one of the few to reverse SWITCH from Mac to Windows (Ha! Take that Apple!), but he knows his stuff. The Mac OS X Server firewall can block other unexpected things, too. We shut off PINGS (et. al.) and suddenly Mac OS 9 AppleTalk connections were lost. You were smart and checked the forums. We were dumb and spent weeks figuring out which port was to blame.
