Newbies RoA Posted January 7, 2003 Newbies Posted January 7, 2003 I am hopelessly out of my depth! I want to swipe information from a driver's license magnetic stripe (AAMVA format) and have that data populate fields in a record such as the license holder's name, address, license number, etc. In addition to having a mixture of fixed and variable length fields, the data is separated by different field delimiters, including dollar signs and carrots. The data is also recorded on two or three tracks and each track begins and ends with % and ? flags. I can't find any plug-ins or commercially available solutions. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
andygaunt Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Have you looked at Waves in Motion www.wmotion.com They have Oazium Smart Cards. Not sure if it can read the mag stripe from a driver's license, but who knows. Worth a look and maybe giving them a call. HTH
jasonwood Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 You just need a USB Mag Stripe reader that supports 3 tracks. You scan it into a field like a keyboard, then run a script to parse the information and populate the fields... this you would write yourself based on what you know about how the information is formatted. It wouldn't be too difficult, you just have to familiarize yourself with the text functions in filemaker.
