Newbies ataft Posted January 9, 2003 Newbies Posted January 9, 2003 I'm creating a database centered around rock climbing. One of the conventions of rock climbing is a rating system that goes like this (depending on which system you use, try not to argue the merits of the actual rating system if you're a R.C., lol): 6 7 8 9 10a 10b 10c 10d 11a 11b 11c 11d 12a... and so on 'til 16d When I do a sort, it doesn't sort correctly because of the mixed number/text values of the rating sysetm. Sooo... to sort correctly, do I need to do a custom sort based on a value list (which I'm completely unfamiliar with) or do I break apart the ratings into the seperate components (sort numbers seperately, then the letters... *Ugh* I can almost feel the headache forming around that one!). How would you do it? Cheers, -Ansel
trevorg Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 You had it right. Custom sort based on value list. Simply create a value list that contains the order you want. (or paste what you put on the forum and finish the last few) Then choose to sort it using that list. FileMaker will match the pattern of your value list.
Newbies ataft Posted January 10, 2003 Author Newbies Posted January 10, 2003 Yeah. I tried it after I posted the message... shoulda done the reverse (obviously!). Thanks, -Ansel
