FileMaker Server 5.5

Featured Replies

Please help,

I have FileMaker Server 5.5 running on a Mac OS Xserver and have placed a couple of test FileMaker pro files (built with FileMaker 5.X) in the same folder as the Server 5.5. I start the server and go to file->open and looked for the newly placed FileMaker files. They are listed but are "greyed out" (so I can't host them). I have tried restarting and still nothing. Any ideas would be great - at this point I am just trying to get a prototype database going. Thank you for any help.

Are the files you have placed in the FM Server folder multi user.

Check the Sharing option under the File Menu.

The files are in the Server 5.5 folder and are listed as Multi-user. I read the events.log and it says that the server has served the files. One of the files being served has a field that is related to the other file (both are in the Server 5.5 folder and are multi-user). I got the Server to serve another file yesterday. I don't understand why some files are being served and others are not. The only difference is that the files not being served have related fields in them.

Files on a FIleMaker server cannot be accessed on the server machine - they are only 'served' by the server. The reason the files are greyed out is because they are already open.

Go to another machine that has FileMaker, open FileMaker and click the 'Hosts' button. You should see (and be able to open) the files under the server name.
