Ricardo Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Hi All, im looking in to purchasing a gigabit fiber network card for my Fm Server. the server is a G4 Mac running OS 9.2.2. The number of users logging on via our LAN (including VPN)on to the server is rapidly increasing. The GB connection will be between the FM Server and the Switch, this switch connects to our 'Stack'(4x 10/100 switches connceted via matrix cables, one of which conncets to this switch via a GB module)which Users connect to at 100mbps. so i m just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? good/bad/Worthwhile idea? thanks, ricardo
Kurt Knippel Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 It is my understanding that 1GB Ethernet is NOT supported under OS 9.x, but only under 10.x and higher.
Guest Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 The only analogy that i can make is to a 100 connection between a server and hubs with 10 connections to the clients. This configuration has been shown to be a practical method of increasing throughput at minimal cost. You mileage may vary.
