Hi,

Your FMDv6 files should open into FMDv5, unless there is file corruption. However they may generate error messages (or simply not function as expected) if they utilize features (eg record level access controls), functions and/or script steps which were introduced after FMPv5.0.

If you want to check which are the most likely problem spots, you might like to pay a visit to the Knowledge base on the FMI site.

For example:

New Functions in v5.5

...and various other articles along similar lines.

Hi,

I've made a few DB's in 6 and ran them in Dev5.5 and they open without any problems. Script debugger showed me some <unknown> scriptsteps (custom dialog) which i had to redo using a lay-out and some globals. Anyway, what I wanted to say here is that fmp 5.5 (and 5.5dev) will open newer version.

I am confused however in what extension to use... FP5 for 5.x but should I set FP6 for filemakerpro6 DB's?

Will that generate a confilct somewhere down the road??

FMPv6 is configured to recognise the .fp5 extension by default.

If you use anything else, you will always have to select the 'All Available' option from the list of file types (when in a 'File Open' dialog) - eg in order to be able to view files with an .fp6 extension.
