Newbies Pierre Lesage Posted January 29, 2003 Newbies Posted January 29, 2003 Good day Here is my situation. I have to create a database system for a nordic ski race event. Many participant and many categories. I want to sort the result 1) by categories, I have created a subsummary in the layout 2) The records heve to be sorted by result (HOUR), and then, that cause me problem, with the RANK (from 1rst to the last) and this ranking method heve to be repeated and refresh for each categories. EXAMPLE JUNIOR A Categorie Number Name TIME RANK -------------------------------- 23 Jos Blo 32:00:01 1 12 James B 32:00:03 2 [...] MASTER A Number Name TIME RANK -------------------------------- 23 Jos Master 32:00:01 1 12 James Bond 32:00:03 2 [...]

Go through the New Layout/Report assistant. Tell it how you want it sorted and subsummarized. It will ask if you want a script to run the report (you do). Now every time you run the script it will perform the sort and go to preview mode so you can see it. Note that you cannot view a report with summaries unless you are in preview mode.
Newbies Pierre Lesage Posted January 29, 2003 Author Newbies Posted January 29, 2003 Sorry but the rank (it is a statistic field where PROGRESSIVE COUNT OF = Name of participant)did not refresh to 1 after changing of category. CATEGORY is the field used as Subsummary.
RussBaker Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I already have a whole race system in Filemaker which does all this, including timing, for single and multi-lap events, with unlimited simultaneous race categories. Have sent you a separate email.
