Newbies FMODBC Posted February 10, 2003 Newbies Posted February 10, 2003 Hi! I have Oracle 8 and FM 5.5 Pro. Is it possible to query FM and insert records into it using ODBC? If yes then how? I've spent couple of days already dealing with it, but I can't still get anything from it. Thanks Tom
Garry Claridge Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 A search in the 'ODBC/JDBC" forum on the word "insert" will give you some snippets of information. All the best. Garry
Newbies FMODBC Posted February 11, 2003 Author Newbies Posted February 11, 2003 I did a ton of searches not only in the forum, but also in the newsgroups and everywhere. I didn't find anything that answers my question. I wonder if someone here can help me?
Anatoli Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 Mr. Clint Roberts posted today this to Blue World Lasso forum: Note in this discussion that to make an Oracle connection, SQL*Net is not required when using the DataDirect Connect 4.0 product, only when using the DataDirect 3.51 product. DataDirect Connect 4.0 uses the Oracle Wire Protocol driver which does not require SQL*NET. DataDirect Connect 3.51 uses the traditional Oracle ODBC driver which does require SQL*NET. FileMaker chose to embed DataDirect Connect 4.0 OEM with FileMaker Pro 6.0 on Mac OS X. However, FileMaker Pro 6.0 on Mac OS still only uses the DataDirect Connect 3.51 OEM. In fact, FileMaker Pro 6.0 on Mac OS cannot use DataDirect Connect 4.0. [Oh, and please don't try using FMP 6.0 in Classic to use DataDirect Connect 4.0 in Mac OS X... Sometimes "brilliance" will lead you down a path of great distruction/frustration.] As you may expect, DataDirect Connect 4.0 File and/or User DSNs cannot be used with DataDirect Connect 3.51. However, DataDirect Connect 3.51 will allow you to see and setup a File and/or User DSNs supplied by the DataDirect Connect 4.0 product and then FileMaker will attempt to use it - causing an error to be thrown. So, it is important that if you have both DataDirect Connect 3.51 and DataDirect Connect 4.0 installed on the same machine, that you use the correct ODBC driver which shipped with each. [And a side note, if you are doing very simple and small queries feel free to use FMP's RDAC or LDAC. If you are going to be using ODBC connectivity at all with FileMaker Pro, I would suggest that you don't even try without using SQL Plug-in 2.x by Professional Data Management ]http://www.profdata.nl/pdm/body.jsp.] I hope this helps.
