I want to export my records (which consist of the fields: name, address, phone number, city) with the City listed just once(as a heading) and then all the records that match that city underneath the heading (in alpha order).

Kind of like a phone book, but this will be a student guide.

I would then like to bring this file into a Pagemaker document.

Is this possible?

Example

City A

name a

name b

...

name y

name z

City B

name a

name b

...

name y

name z

...

City Y

name a

name b

...

name y

name z

City Z

name a

name b

...

name y

name z

Look in FileMaker Help: Exporting data from FileMaker Pro

"To export subsummary values, click Summarize by. Then, in the Summarize By dialog box, select the field you want to use as the break field. A checkmark appears to the left of the field. Click OK."

Does that make sense? Sort by City/Name, then, following the instructions above, use City as the break field.

Yes, it does make sense and sort of works.

I still do not get the desired output though.

When exporting by the summary field it only exports one record that matches that city.

For example:

City A name A

City B name A

...

City Y name A

City Z name A

When what I really want is the City name followed by a listing of all the names in that city, then the next City followed by all the names in that city ...and so on and so forth.

Maybe I am not asking the right question, or maybe not asking the question the right way? Could be that I am not providing enough information? Perhaps this is not possible? Or is it possible that no one knows how to do something like this?
