March 2, 200322 yr For the Filemaker gurus out there, a simple question: In an address book db, I'd like to have a row of buttons corresponding to the letters of the alphabet that when clicked jump to the record that has that letter as the first letter in a specific field (LastName). Sort of a shortcut to that section of the db. I'm sure it can be done with a script, just not sure on the specifics. Any ideas? Thank You for your time, lokimann

March 3, 200322 yr I have attached a much cut-down file from one of my race registration systems. It contains both an alphabet button search for last names starting with a letter (The LIST VIEW button on the top left) and a clairvoyance search for last names (The FIND LAST NAMES button on the top left). In all the list views and portals, clicking on the names will take you back to the form view for that person. Probably not the most "elegant" way to do it - but it works. The calculations which deliver the combined first and last names (friendly or official) also have the trim and substutite functions in them to get rid of excess spaces and carriage returns - the subject of another post in the forum today. March 3, 200322 yr Hi Russ, Thanks for sharing again. I have a question though. I understand your selections under "Sex" of Male and Female, but what the heck is a Mixed? Lee )
March 3, 200322 yr Mixed? Well, I recall a few weeks back there was a post containing a sex of: "uncertain for those who didn't want to reveal". (I can't ever recall an uncertain who didn't want to reveal, but thats another story). Actually, the race registration system, of which the complete file is a part, caters for teams as well as individuals in events such as triathlons, and one of those options is for a mixed sex team.
