How do I recover replaced data?

I recently tried to import some data into a DATE field of my existing records, but I must have selected the wrong field to import the data, resulting in the data replacing the LASTNAME fields of my existing records. Is there a way to recover the replaced data, short of going back to my month-old backup copy and re-entering the new records?

Nope, backup is the only solution. Months old? Ouch!
