mf Posted September 21, 2001 Posted September 21, 2001 This is more a "I wonder if" question rather than "my job depends on this"-type of question: Is there a way to reduce the size of a file (get rid of unused blocks) without closing the file? I am dealing with a file of some 80000 records and it is being reduced by about half (it goes from about 10 MB to 7 MB when closed).
LiveOak Posted September 21, 2001 Posted September 21, 2001 It's worse than that. The only really good way to delete unused blocks and really compress the file structure if to close out in FM Server. Open the file with a normal copy of FM and "Save a Copy as..." "Compressed Copy". It's just part of the periodic maintenance you'll need to do. If you try to keep a file/server up 100% of the time and do no maintenance, you will eventually have big problems. Just schedule in maintenance. -bd
