Importing datetime data from SQL Server

Featured Replies

  • Newbies

I am trying to import Date of Birth into a Filemaker application from SQL

Server. Date of Birth in the SQL Server is stored as "datetime" data

type.

It looks like this in XL: 26/05/2003 12:00:00

But can I get it into FMP? I've struggled all ways round, importing into

a text field and using TextToDate function, importing into a Date field,

into a time field. I'm stumped

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

If you can bring it into a text field, and it looks like "26/05/2003 12:00:00" when you do, then it's fairly straightforward to create a calculated field using a text function to split it where the space is with this formula:

Left(ImportedDateField,Position(ImportedDateField," ",1,1)-1)

This still leaves you with a text field, but you can use the TextToDate field to convert it to a real date like this:

TextToDate(Left(ImportedDateField,Position(ImportedDateField," ",1,1)-1))

You just have to make sure that your system date format matches the imported date format.
