Hi

I do not know where to post it so I decided to drop it here.

A company asked me if I could build the following (bare with me cause I didn't recieve more info either...)

It's a 24/7 company that dispatches calls for customerservices.

What they want is:

A user calls, enters a code using their phone and their call will/should be dispatched to the serviceman thats located closest to him.

I'm not aware of any tool/plugin or whatever that can relay a phonecall in FM without any additional hardware (some kind of switchbox I reckon).

Does anyone know how to even start on something like this?? Is it possible to 'login' into a FM dbase with a phone, using its dialtones?

Any ideas??

TIA

Ddo yourself a favor - this is for PBX software, not for FileMaker. But - if you want to make sure, the salesperson has the customer's record on screen depending on the caller-id: that's can be solved with scripting. There is a TAPI plugin for filemaker - works with any TAPi compatible PBX. And some modems allow getting the caller-ID by AppleScript or troi serial plugin.

Basically what you need is some way to get a digital signal out of the PBX and into FMP. Like cjaeger said, there are lots of existing pbx packages that do what your client needs. However, that doesn't mean that an FMP solution wouldn't work. Find out, if you can, what brand and model of PBX the client has and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

Ah... here it is.

http://www.tao-solutions.de/inh_TAPI2FMP.html

If you scroll to the bottom you'll see that it's also available in English BUT only for Windows!

As Roland from Tao Solutions put it "Mac does not have TAPI. Therefore TAPI2FMP is not possible. As soon as Mac has an CTI Standard like TAPI or CAPI, be sure, we will develop an Macintosh Version."

I guess this means that the API has to be built in to the operating system... so let's all pick up the phone and call Apple!
