Newbies Ted G. Posted April 19, 2003 Newbies Share Posted April 19, 2003 I have two text fields side by side, and for each I did Format ---> Sliding and chose ?sliding left.? I was expecting field #2 to slide over and fill any empty space in field #1. The output looked the same with and without the sliding left option. Am I doing something wrong, or did I misunderstand how ?slide left? works? I found a workaround by using MailMerge, but that does not really seem consistent with how I understand FileMaker to work. Any ideas. Thanks. Thanks, Ted G.
danjacoby
Slide Left only slides the right-hand field over by the amount of blank space on the right-hand side of the left-hand field. If the left-hand field is more than one line long the sliding will still work, but only to the edge of the longest line. What will NOT slide is the space between the fields. Newbies Ted G. Posted April 20, 2003 Author Newbies Share Posted April 20, 2003 Thanks for the response, danjacoby. I have the two adjacent field boundaries touching each other, the leftmost field's right boundary resting under the left boundary of the rightmost field. Nothing happens. Do the fields, maybe, have to be overlapping or separated, or something? I must bed missing a concept somewhere. Ted G.
danjacoby
Are you sure BOTH fields are sliding left? 'Cause it doesn't matter if the fields are touching, or even overlapping.
danjacoby
Another thought is that there's something else in there -- text, or a graphic, or something getting in the way.
