We are loosing records every time we do an import from Excel but only in Mac OS X, numerous attempts to reproduce the same problem in Windows XP has been done but it will not do it in Windows XP.

We have 10 Excel files each holding 2 sheets with this fields:

Code (text field) departure(date filed) Arrival (date filed) Destination (text filed) and Name (text filed)

When we do the import are we using match field with filed Code, code is unique for each trip. Let us say we have 1000 record and we import with match filed 50 records. The 50 records are in FMP so the result has to be 1000 records, correct. Nevertheless, we get 960? The 50 records that we imported did come up correct but 40 records from other trips is gone!!! We have really looked in the db for when but they are not there for sure.

Does any body have an experience with this problem and Excel. We are using Max OS X with latest updates, FileMaker Developer 6 v3, Office for Mac.

Your code field does not seem to be that unique. Try importing without match and check for dups using "!" operator.

i just meant:

a) do you have checked that there are really no duplicates?

: is the code field defined as a text field?

c) is the code field the ONLY field defined as "match"

I never lost records with the "Match" option on import.

Except when: a) , : or c)

method mentioned in the post before is just an easy way to check for dups. try it. Then blame Apple, FileMaker or me (in that order)
