yomaddog Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 I've downloaded a plugin, but can't seem to find out how to install... (has no .exe) Is there a folder in FM(5.5v2) to drop in the plugin?
Ugo DI LUCA Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Hi, With any Plug-in, you usually have a pdf file. That's what it always say : To get started with plug-ins,you will want to install them into FileMaker Pro on your local machine. In general, plug-ins consist of a single file that you copy to a specific place on your hard drive. After obtaining the plug-in, close FileMaker Pro and then locate the folder on your hard drive that contains your FileMaker Pro application. For Macintosh, this is usually in the Applications folder;while on Windows,it is usually in the Program Files folder.Next to the FileMaker Pro application, you should find a folder named FileMaker Extensions (on Macintosh;See Figure 1)or System (on Windows;See Figure 2).Copy the plug-in file into this folder to install it into FileMaker Pro.
CobaltSky Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Hello yomaddog, Yes, you need to place a copy of the plug in in the System (Windows) or FileMaker Extensions (MacOS) folder, as Ugo says. What he has omitted to mention, however, is that after doing so, you should also launch FMP and go to the Application Preferences menu option (generally on the Edit menu except in OSX), navigate to the 'Plug-Ins' tab, scroll through the list to check whether the plug-in you've added is appearing there, and confirm that it is enabled (ie that a check appears next to it). Generally, but not always, newly added plug-ins are selected/enabled by default when FileMaker next launches, but FMI recommends that you always manually check this before trying to use the plug-in, to avoid needless frustration or confusion.
