martinw Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Hello everyone! I am currently running a database (well, several databases) on FM Server and are using FM Pro on client machines to use them. But I am now in the progress of redeveloping our website that is using some information from the databases, and I find it a pain in the a*se to incorporate FM with the website. So, my question is: Is it possible to use FM Pro as a front-end to a MS SQL Server DB? This would make it so much easier to do what I want to do, as I already have all the SQL Server knowledge. Thanks, Martin.
Anatoli Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 RE: incorporate FM with the website Use WebCompanion and CDML/HTML pages. You can also use Lasso for connection between web clients and FM/SQL.
martinw Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 It doesn't really answer my question. I do have ASP/HTML and SQL Server knowledge, and I don't want to have to learn me another system as SQL Server is better for any web-based applications.
Anatoli Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 OK, so you have the Ferrari car (FM) and instead of starting its engine (CDML) you want to pull-it with another technology like horse (ASP). It is your choice.
cjaeger Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 Anatoli, I'd rather have a look at FX.php and XML. martinw: It's perfectly possible. But having a networked database feeding another doesn't really majke sense. I can understand that so keeps a FileMaker Client to feed some filtered data to mainframes, but a whole network of FM Clients?
Anatoli Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 RE: and I find it a pain in the a*se to incorporate FM with the website. It is so easy as 1-2-3. I did it many times. I still don't understand any role for SQL stuff when "I am currently running a database (well, several databases) on FM Server and are using FM Pro on client machines to use them." RE: Anatoli, I'd rather have a look at FX.php and XML. Why? FM and WebCompanion works beautifully together with CDML.
