cjnvision Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 hi everyone, new member! i'm having some odd issues when importing data from a FileMaker 6 database into a FileMaker 5 database hosted on a FMS 5 server. it seems as though FMP is just picking a record at random and importing it. i get the correct final found count but the records themselves are wrong. here's a synopsis of what i'm doing: FileMaker Pro 6 (.fp5) db opened in FMP 6.0v4 served on FMS 6 (origin) FileMaker Pro 5 (.fp5) db opened in FMP 6.0v4 served on FMS 5 (destination) when i try to import the data of a found set from the origin into the destination, the resulting found set in the destination has the wrong information in the match field, while the one critical field by which the origin found set was searched by is correct. ie when InvNo is set as the match field to "Update match, add remaining", the resulting destination found set does not match the origin found set with the InvNo, but the Record Count is the same. no additional records were added despite their absence in the destination database. i tried to import just one record which i knew wasn't in the destination by finding that one record in the origin and trying to import it, but the resulting single record in destination was not the record which was found in the origin. does my explanation make sense? if so, what might be at fault here? are there some intrinsic incompatibilities when importing from 6 into 5? thanks in advance!! Chris
Kurt Knippel Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Well, there is no Filemaker Server v6, so there is something confusing in your entire situation. Filemaker Pro (client version) v5.x and v6.x only differ in the capabilities of the application. Filemaker Server v3.x worked with both Filemaker Pro 3.x and 4.x, while Filemaker Server 5.x works with Filemaker Pro 5.x and 6.x So I would start by clarifying what you actual configuration is.
cjaeger Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 Well, there is no Filemaker Server v6, so there is something confusing in your entire situation. .. but still, any FileMaker full version can be a host on the network .... I canno reproduce he problem. I use a mix of FM 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0, win, MacOS 9 and MacOS X, and any one of them can host any *.fp5 database. I can open a database with 6.0 only functions, an access those funcs with FM6 client, even when it is hosted by a 5.0 FileMaker. Never had this match-import problem. Does the problem persist when: a) you import locally, i.e. from a local file : you import with same FM version?
cjnvision Posted April 25, 2003 Author Posted April 25, 2003 you're right, it's not FM6 specifically. it's just hosting files which FM6 files reside on. this does not happen when importing on local files in FMP6, nor does it happen when FMP5 clients are accessing the destination server. it might help that this is FMP6 on WinXP connecting to a FMS on MacOS9.2 thanks for the thought!
