Filemaker / MS Access relationships

Featured Replies

Dear All,

Is there anyway of linking a filemaker database to fields within a MS Access Database?

Thanks

BW

Oh I can almost guarantee that this post will yield replies all asking why you don't move all of your .mdb records over to FM (which is understandable). I used to work with Access - used to.

If I remember correctly, both FM and Access are compatible with SQL or ODBC. Maybe setting up a Data Source through the Admistrative Tools (Win2k) might create the link you want.

Let me know how it turns out.

Looks like I'm going to be in the same spot. My organization is purchasing a product which I believe uses Access databases as a base, and we will need to interface our existing system with this new one. I would be interested in hearing if you found a solution - any insight you can provide would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The best advice I can offer is to look at chapter 15 in the FM user's guide- "Using ODBC with FileMaker Pro."

It specifically says you can "construct SQL queries in FileMaker Pro to import data from other ODBC data sources like MS Access or Oracle databases."

I have never done it before, so I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly, but I guess you would have to:

1. Enable the Data Access Companion

2. Create a data source name in the ODBC control panel

3. Make SQL queries in FM.
