Hi,

We have multiple images on a filesystem and would like to reference/display these

within filemaker (as referenced via a filename field within filemaker).

Is this possible?

Is troi the way - for multiple users?

J.

If you want to manage the files via a simple file name reference, then the Troi File plug-in is the way to go.

We do a similiar thing with photographs. I would also suggest that you use the Troi File plug-in to create a thumbnail and store that in a container field, so that a user has some idea of what the image is.

Opening the image can then be done via a button.

If you want to be able to print those images via Filemaker, then you will need to use the Troi File plugin to store references in Filemaker container fields.

On MacOS, a simple 5 line applescript will have the same effect.

Troi File makes sense if you make it cross-platform or make use the other functions, which are great. For this simple task alone, however, it would be overkill.

Another approach (with Filemaker 6) is keeping all of your pix files in the same directory (or subfolders thereof) and use folder picture import (w/merge) to update a related images.fp5 file. Not an option if you have 1000s of records, but good for up to 500 pix per folder....
