May 2, 200322 yr Newbies Hi, I have downloaded the Trial Version of FMServer 5.5. Firstly: I have tried to install this on my Windows ME machine, but cannot. Do I have to install it onto a Windows NT or 2000 PC? Secondly: Can I create standalone database files and then serve them up with this trial version of server?
May 2, 200322 yr 1. I don't think so. 2. What is standalone db files? You can create FM db files in FM client and FM server can serve them to FM clients. HTH
May 3, 200322 yr Author Newbies What I mean by standalone database files, is a runtime solution where you don't need a copy of FM on a machine for the program to run.
May 5, 200322 yr Author Newbies Do you mean then that I can use FM Server 4.0 to serve up the files, but I can still create the runtime in FM Developer 6?
May 12, 200322 yr FMS 5.5 can serve up runtime files bound with FMD5.x and 6. But each user will need regular FMP on their box to use them. FMS will need to be set to host the runtimes and register their extension in FMS. This has worked well for me in the past.

If each user has to have a regular version of FMP installed on their end, what is the advantage of hosting a runtime solution on FMS rather than standard .FP5 files?
June 18, 200322 yr There is no advantage. But it may happen, that you own one and this way it can be put on server.
