joseppic Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Hi, I'm now at 114 server files - I am trying to impose a Relational DB where each table has its own file just in-case I need to drop FMPro and go RDBMS at some point. The server is a hi-spec linux box. Can I host multiple fmServers on one box? Is the 125max files served a hard limit? Should I be concentrating my tables across fewer files? Should I be buying low-spec linux boxes and move to a farm? Any advice welcome. J.
cjaeger Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Is the 125max files served a hard limit? YES Should I be concentrating my tables across fewer files? YES Should I be buying low-spec linux boxes and move to a farm? NO Instead of trying to have 1 file=1 table, simply define the export routines necessary to port to RDBMS right now. Or consider moving to RDBMS right away as with your structure you are most likely not using any FileMaker specific advantages. You can still use FM as a frontend to your RDBMS if you need certain layout or printing options...
