Ugo DI LUCA Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Hi, I was contacted one year ago by a french company that provided some "daily intelligent back-up", along with an "secure externalistaion of the db on a protected location". http://www.adhersis.com or http://www.adhersis.com/it/ for italiy...or http://www.adhersis.com/de/ for germany Note that I'm not dropping these adresses for advertisement . They've been fooling around with me from the begining with some inexistant services, no Mac Configurations and really weak technical support. Their commercial arguments at the time were mainly focused on "the 11 september tragedy and the need to delocalize the backups ! " ( Can you believe it ! Shame!) and besides are still charging me based on initial contract while I'm not using their service anymore. But the idea was promising. Only the data that had changed within the day was exported to this site. Does anyone knows of any other intelligent back-up of this kind, with a real service ?
cjaeger Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 roll your own. use a sftp connection or ssh tunnel to transfer your files to another server. backing up just the daily data should be a simple fileMaker Script. Importing the data on the other side at a predefined inverval, and if successful, deleting/renaming the import file with a fileplugin is trivial (at least for you). Only thing you need is a reliable partner which whom you have a mutual agreemant .... or 2 servers in different locations, that is ... Wrong forum - put it under making a living
cjaeger Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 ... or simply send the data exported as tab-delimited, pgp-encrypted mails to a mail account on the other side of the globe ...
Ugo DI LUCA Posted May 6, 2003 Author Posted May 6, 2003 Hi Christian, Wrong forum ? Well yes as these solutions are common to any software. It's part of the hard drive that is "exported" !! It's kind of reversing the audit log. The tab delimited is a good one too. So if I come up with a solution, I can make it a living too Thanks.
paulage77 Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Recently we were burglarized and the thieves stole quite a few of our towers, but luckily did not get there hands on our Filemaker ser ver. Had they grabbed this along with our back up drives we would have been so thoroughly screwed I don't even want to think about it. So what we've started to do is swapping out our fire wire back ups once a week and dropping one off in our safe deposit box and then reusing the old one. So we got a rotation of two, one being backed up and one sitting in the safe deposit box.
