Henry Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Hi, i just start learning FileMaker Pro, Just want to asking some question. I create a portal in an entry screen and let user key in record, and after that i want all the record to print in out in another layout(this layout also have the portal). I found that if the record contain more than one page, it will only print one page, so some record will now printed. How to set it automatic change to two or more page if the record more than one page.
CobaltSky Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Hi Harry, Any minute there will likely be an avalanche of portal bashing on this thread, as there are some folks who take the view that the words 'portal' and 'print' are mutually incompatible. There are certainly times when printing from a layout in the related file may prove easier than configuring a portal to print appropriately - but in my view it's a case-by case decision and there are no absolute 'laws'. Before the avalanche begins, you might like to take a trip across to the FMI techinfo knowledgebase and check out the article entitled "Multiple Page Portals: Printing a Fixed Number of Portal Rows on each Page" to see if that has any bearing on your problem. The direct link to the article is: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/104457.html The approach described on the FMI site may or may not suit, but bear in mind that there are generally several options for the construction of a layout to print related data, so if one approach is not working out the way you want there are generally a few alternatives.
cjaeger Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Cobalt, you are right. Here's the protal bashing . But as Henry just starts learning Filemaker, he would be probably better of if he'd print it from the related file .... unless he is 100% sure he does not need a subsummary of the portal rows.
