Hi!

I have a problem confused.gif with FileMaker running on Windows 2000: it takes more than 5 minutes to launch. It happens on two different machines, having FM v5 and v6, whereas it doesn't happen on other computers on our network.

Anyone with a similar experience can help?

Could be a profile problem. Create a new local user account on one of the PCs that is having the problem. Log in with the new account and see what happens when you open FileMaker.

Hi,

First of all, thanks, it was helpful.

I created a new local user and, by using this one, FileMaker works with no apparent problem.

The question is then: How do I "repair" the user profile that makes FileMaker to missbehave?

With regard to fonts, temps, etc. I already cleaned up the Fonts Folder (I just left some 15 fonts); did all the "classical maintenance" (temp file clean-up, disk check, disk defrag). That didn't make any difference.

I unistalled FileMaker, uninstalled [not just disable] also Norton Antivirus (just in case), and reinstalled again. It didn't make any difference either.

I checked by means of "FileMon.exe" (a file monitoring utility) what was behind the scenes. FileMaker was creating *lots* of temporary files, then deleting them. (I would say that 3 or 4 per second for around 5 minutes. That would make some 1200 files).

Thanks and regards

I'm not sure why it happens. I've tried deleting all the filemaker specific entries in the profile with no luck. I have 100 or so users and it doesn't happen often so I just recreate the profile for them when it does happen.
