Lookup that pops up

Featured Replies

New user (sorry) can somebody just direct me to the index topic so that when I type in my item code on a standard order (repeating field) that the values pop up so I can select the right one instead of it being blank until I leave the field and wait to see if the description looks up. I know it must be simple but I cant find it in Wiley bible. Thanks

First of all, get rid of the repeating field. Use a relationship & a portal instead. It's a longer learning curve at first, but after you're done cursing me you'll start to thank me.

Now, what values do you want to "pop up"?

Because if you want other fields to fill in automatically based on the item code you enter, you can create a related file with a complete list of item codes and the other data and then set all the other fields as calculations. You'll still have to leave the item code field in order for the other values to fill in, but there it is.

One more thing -- if you're doing this, then I strongly suggest you set the "Item Code" field to pull from a value list, the list being the contents of the Item Code field in the related file.

The file is a standard detail line in an invoice. ie first column is item#, second description. Challenge on portal is that the inventory is a list of services and I need to be able to modify that description and keep the modification with the invoice as opposed to the standard description. Just thought there would be a way to list the item#'s (they are descriptive not just numerals) and have a pop up or drop down list come up with matches as I type so that I can pick the proper item# before hitting enter.

Not sure if it is what you are after but a simple Value List, with a pop up menu may help you.

In LAYOUT Mode Right Click the FIELD you are after.

Select POP UP LIST and then Using Value List and ADD a Value List of the INFO you require to be there.

Result is when you select the field it will display a drop down list of INFO to select.

Hope this helps.
