A friend sent me a FM file as an email attachment. The file came through but there was no data in the fields. What happened?

Your friend could have cloned the database file and sent you the clone - a cloned file contains all layouts and fields etc but no records. Justs makes the file smaller for sending to people - obviously no use if you want the data that the database holds!

Hi Silhouette

Is this a trick question or something?

Why are you asking the list why data wan't contained in the file, why not ask the sender why they sent an empty database?

There is nothing in the process of emailing that could strip the data records out of a Filemaker file but still leave the rest of file intact. As Eddy and Lee have already pointed out, the sender must have accidentally sent you an empty file.
