Please Help!!!!!

I defined 2 passwords for each file. One is the standard user (blank password). One is a password that has full access (admin password). It asked me for a full access password, so I entered in the same password as the admin password, now I can't open the file and get the access privelages menu, just the change password box. WTF?

Now that I realize the full access password is seperate from one that has 'full control', I suppose I should have made them different passwords, but there should be a warning so it wouldn't allow multiple of the same passwords. What is a guy to do?: I guess it's not really a HUGE problem, but I'd really like to be able to change the rights levels, and right now I can't. PLEASE HELP!!!!

it is not possible to have 2 identical passwords in a file. And FileMaker will not allow you to exit password dialog without giving a full access password.

How did you manage this?

Hmmmm, I think it may have taken care of itself.... Apparently I can't edit the access privelages when it's running on the FM Server? I copied the files to my PC, and I can now edit the access privelages.

The full access password WAS one of the passwords in the file... If that makes sense?

Huh?

You are required to have a password that gives full access & control (and full access means full control) -- whenever you go to define passwords, if you make any changes, you must enter that password before exiting, so there has to be a full access password.

Close the file, then open it while holding down either the shift key (if on Windows) or the option key (if on Mac), then enter the full access password. That should get you in.

If you absolutely can't remember what that password is (no matter how certain you know what it is), Filemaker can help you (for a fee, of course).

OK, I just got confused when it asked me to enter the full access password, like it's some sort of security feature when the password is staring you right in the face... I dunno what else they would be asking you for....

I was holding the shift key as I was accessing the files, but I'm assuming since it was being shared by the FM server, it wouldn't allow me to change access the "access privelages".

You can only access the entire Access Privileges (Passwords, Groups and Overview) when you are the host of the databases. And yes, this makes it very inconvenient to change privileges on the fly, forcing some people to look into different security methods and 3rd party plugins. I don't think FileMaker was designed very well when it comes to secure multiple user / multiple database applications...
