Newbies ekrafsur Posted May 14, 2003 Newbies Posted May 14, 2003 Sorry if this is basic, but Im coming from a SQL background. What is the equivilent in filemaker - either a script step or in a calculated field of the SQL SELECT DISTINCT statement? I cant seem to figure anything out, or find any references. Thanks
Fitch Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Short answer: there's no equivalent. There are various methods to do this, you might search for "remove duplicates" or something. For example: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/104753.html http://fentonjones.com/Articles/07_Duplicates.html Or, if you just want to see distinct values for a given field, rather than records, you could put the field on a subsummary part and sort; or, click in it and select the Insert - From Index... menu; or make a Value List based on the field and a calc or script based on the ValueListItems function... etc. Depends what your ultimate goal is.
