Newbies BIG SNAKE Posted May 15, 2003 Newbies Posted May 15, 2003 Why do my Tif images expand so much when I import them into FM 6.0 Windows database? The images are 100k before the import and 600k after. I have to do the import from a Mac before the database is put back on my Windows server. Why can't I import the TIF images on the PC? It gives me an out of memory message when I attempt the import on the PC.
danjacoby Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 They expand because when you import graphics into Filemaker they lose any compression algorithms, and you get the full size of the graphic. Most graphics (.bmp excepted, and I believe .pct as well, though I wouldn't swear to it) have some sort of compression "built in" to the file. Filemaker "decompresses" them when you import. My suggestion is to link, rather than directly import, the graphics. Of course, if you move files around (either the FMP files or the graphics), you can lose the link, which is a royal pain, but at least you won't have a file size problem.
