Is there a Merge & Print Limit on FileMaker Pro 5?

Hi ya all,

I am totally new to using FileMaker, making just my first steps into using it. Another colleague of mine is having a problem with the printing of mail merged documents in version 5 and I would like to ask the question of the limitation that this feature has. Is there a limit for 9999 records to be printed or no limit? Is is possible that this limit is a Printer limitation and not a FileMaker Pro limitation?

If there is a limitation, do newer versions support more records or is there a patch to deal with this problem?

Please reply at your convenience.

Thanks.

Stelios

this is definitely not a filemaker limit. but since every page is spooled to hard disk, the # of pages printed is limited by hd space, the printers paper tray, etc.

you could easily write a script which prints by chunks of 500 records by issuing coresponding find requests in a loop.

What you said is totally valid. I think there is a issue with the limit on our printer.

Thanks for the feedback.

Are you seriously printing more than 9999 pages from one file???

If you are on a Mac running a Classic OS, you might want to try giving the Print Monitor (or Desktop Print Monitor) a bit more memory. It's in The Extensions folder: select it and increase the memory just like any other application.

Also make sure you are using FMP 5.0v3. Earlier patch versions (v1 and v2) had printing problems. Free patch updates on the fmi web site.
