Slow finds in portals

Featured Replies

When doing a search on certain fields inside a portal, most of the finds take much longer than they should. Finds that would be instantaneous if done directly from the related database take 30-60 seconds, with a lengthy "processing field..." progress bar showing up. And yet other finds in the portal, depending on the fields used and the content of the search, will execute in no time. I've tried indexing all the fields, that was the first thing I tried. Is there anything I can do about it?

The portal is in a database of about 7,000 records, with the related database being about 10,000 records (but with much less data per record than the parent database). I have a separate set of databases with almost identical functions and with the related database at only 1,000 records, the search times are much more reasonable. Is there something about portal searching that doesn't scale well?

there has been some threads on portal searching. I do not remember what they found out, but i take a guess:

try to avoid searching in portals because index of related file seems to be ignored ...
