Paolo Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 I have a db that worked great since yesterday. Today an unindexed search on 250 records take over 40 seconds (yesterday it was performed in 1-2 seconds). I've noticed that the overall performance of the solution have been affected. The db is on a PowerMac G3 333, FM Server, Mac os 9. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you, Paolo.
Ugo DI LUCA Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Ciao Paolo, Yes, this happens often, but depends upon what kind of work is done along the day, as some calcs may already have recalculated, some not. In order to have a good comparison, you should try to perform the same search at the same moment between 2 days.
Paolo Posted May 21, 2003 Author Posted May 21, 2003 Hi Ugo, thank you for your help. Just quitting FM, restarting the machine and restarting Filemaker solved the problem. Now the find on 300 records is performed in less than one second. I think isolated the cause of the problem. Yesterday evening the monitor (and keyboard) were disconnected, and a different monitor (and same keyboard) reconnected. On that server Apple Remote Desktop client is installed. Could it be that this configuration of events caused the slowdown? What do you think ? Ciao, Paolo.
Ugo DI LUCA Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Well Paolo, I'm not that aware about the technical features, but this seems to be external to FileMaker, thus would not necessarilly be the cause. When my first db was created, the users were quitting FM with the Quit command. This created, even after the recalculation some other refresh problems. Also, when dealing with a set of "recalcs" as the "Today" Function, performing one find at one moment and one at another would lead to different results (in time). Ciao.
