surlyb Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 I have a spreadsheet in Excel (Office 98). When I try to import it into FM 4, although it shows Excel as an option, it will not recognize the file. Any ideas?
danjacoby Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 You can save the Excel file as an Excel 4.0 Worksheet or as tab-separated text. Either way, it'll only save the current sheet, rather than the whole workbook, but at least you can import into FMPv4. Here's one area where FMPv5 is a significant improvement; I suggest upgrading. In v5, you can literally drop the Excel file into FMP, and it'll not only open, but you can tell FMP that the first row is the fieldnames.
Rigsby Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 Firstly, if you want to stay with 4.0, get the updates from the Filemaker website. This problem was at least dealt with in the FMP 4.1 to 4.1-v3 update, so I would guess they solved it for 4.0 too. Another trick is not to import, but to simply open the Excel file with FMP. Once you have a new FMP file containing ti information, you can import it into your database. Rigsby
