Newbies zebedee Posted July 14, 2003 Newbies Posted July 14, 2003 I'm an ex-Windows user trying to switch apps to Mac. I have several databases that I've set up in Access in which I heavily depend on crosstab queries (pivot table queries). Before taking the plung to migrate to FM can anyone tell me if FM can present data in a crosstab/pivot table format?
Lee Smith Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 You can download a fully functioning copy of FileMaker. If you haven't do so already, maybe it would be helpful to do so. There is a User's Guide, and on-line help that comes with it in the download. HTH lee
Newbies zebedee Posted July 15, 2003 Author Newbies Posted July 15, 2003 Thanks, Lee for suggesting the resources. I may be a bit dense, but a search of the users guide and the knowledge base for either "pivot" or "crosstab" doesn't come up with anything. I'm happy to delve more, but if you know if its possible, I'd search with more hope...
Lee Smith Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Hi, I'm strictly a Mac person and have never used Access, so I do not know what the term(s) "crosstab queries (pivot table queries)" means. I suggested that you download the demo, hoping that you would do a search for keywords (that would represent what you are trying to do), or play with the demo and see what features are there, such as the Finds, Search, etc. Perhaps there are other members here that are familiar Access and/or these these term(s), and will jump in here and answer your questions. However, if you give a brief description of what you want to do, I'm positive that we will be able to give you an answer. Lee
Newbies zebedee Posted July 15, 2003 Author Newbies Posted July 15, 2003 Sorry - windows-ese dies hard. What I'm referring to is a way of displaying data such that the value in a specified field becomes a field itself. I'm a scientist and in the lab I have a database set up with where a record is generated for individual experiments. Each experimental record has a field for an experiment condition (low dose or high dose, say) experimental result (a percentage), and a timepoint that the result was recorded (e.g. hour 1, hour 2 etc). Each record can be entered as the results are generated. But after all the experiments are done, I want to view the data summarized in a table where each row is a condition, each column a timepoint and each cell the value of the experimental result. Apologies if this is a complicated way of explaining it, but that's the goal, and I'm hoping FM can do this! Thanks to all for your thoughts.
