can someone please tell me how to constrain or extend a found set using 5.5. i know these functions are in 6 but we are unable to upgrade yet

Can you be more specific? Have you used multiple requests and/or omitted requests?

Since 5.5 doesn't support constrain/extend, you have to come up with a workaround. The simplest way is to use the restore last find command and then add additional find requests if you want to extend the found set, or add additional search criteria to the existing find requests if you want to constrain the found set.
