August 1, 200322 yr I have a staff database (1 record per person) with a relationship to their actual work positions (many records per person). This database has a relationship ( ne record per location) to a school database for the work location and data about that location (ie address phone numbers etc). My question is can I view address and phone number data from the staff database via a relationship from the school database? If no is this a limitation of filemaker to only do one level of relationships (ie a star pattern of databases)? I'm using FM 5.5 on windows.
August 1, 200322 yr This has been covered quite a bit, just browse through some of the threads, here's one to get you started: click me Short answer: pipeline it! Long answer: create a calc that = the key field of another file, then you can relate that as needed. Or, if you only need one or two fields, you could just pipeline them directly using the same method.
August 1, 200322 yr Author Thanks. I should have posted that I found it. But it again was your answer on another post that got me to the Matrix Modeling white paper re: regarding this topic. Here is the link that helps: http://www.nightwing.com.au/FileMaker/resources/MatrixModelling.pdf Brian
