Can't find related file

I am desperately trying to finish up a project before I quit my job next week and I keep getting errors saying that it cannot find the file ... which is a related file. It happens on different files and they are in the same subfolder. I called filemaker and they said that "the ideal way to run a related database is to have a dedicated server computer host the files and that all my problems would be solved" I have tried this on a trial basis, but still get the same errors. I am not using FM server. There are no more than 5 users sharing 8 databases. Usually only 2-3 are on at a time and in 3-4 of the databases. Does the order of opening the files matter, or am I just missing something simple?

Turn OFF file-sharing for the folder that contains the files. Launch the files ONLY on that computer where the files reside. Make sure all the files launch, or other users won't see them. Other users should access the files ONLY through the HOSTS button or Open Remote.

Thank you so much for your help. I was about to scream after redefining so many relationships. I used some of your suggestion and also did some research on open remote and that answered all of my questions. Your a life saver.
